Roots of Our Future
by Linda M. Rupert

This book presents an overview of the colorful commercial history of Willemstad, Curacao. It covers over three hundred years, from the town's establishment as a Dutch naval base in 1634, through its years of glory as the center of the Dutch trade empire in western hemisphere in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, to a period of relative decline

and stagnation throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and on to the revitalization brought first by the oil industry in the early 1900s and then by new forms of industry and commerce since World War Two.
